Lesotho, known as the “Kingdom in the Sky,” is a landlocked nation entirely surrounded by South Africa, famed for its dramatic mountain landscapes and rich cultural traditions. Sitting at the highest average elevation of any country in the world, it offers sweeping vistas of rugged peaks, deep valleys, and clear rivers. Its terrain makes it a year-round destination for outdoor pursuits, from summer hiking through wildflower-dotted meadows to winter skiing at Afriski, one of the few ski resorts in Africa.

Basotho culture is at the heart of the country’s identity. Visitors often see locals wearing the iconic Basotho blanket and traditional conical hats, symbols of pride and heritage. Small villages scattered across the highlands welcome travelers with warm hospitality, offering insights into age-old customs, music, and storytelling. The capital city, Maseru, blends modern life with traditional markets and craft shops selling handwoven tapestries and pottery.

Lesotho’s natural wonders are equally captivating. The Maletsunyane Falls near Semonkong plunge 192 meters into a misty gorge, creating one of the tallest single-drop waterfalls in Africa. The Sehlabathebe National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to rare plants, ancient rock art, and breathtaking sandstone formations.
